The End of the Cold War
The debate remained between Republicans and Democrats on what ended the cold war; Republicans were convinced that the military spending during the Reagan & Bush years forced the Soviet into an economic collapse while Democrats wanted to credit Harry Truman for the containment of communism for over 45 years. But it could be argued that Mikel Gorbachev himself forced the Soviet into defeat with his plans of limited market incentives to the Soviet public spawning a demand for freedom and independence, and he soon found himself as a president without a country.

The Strategic Arms Limitation Talks or Treatys more commonly known as SALT I and SALT II were treaties that were signed between the United States and the Soviet Union in 1972 and 1979 respectively.
