Report on the Berlin crisis 1961
On July 25, 1961 President John F. Kennedy addressed the nation about the tensions building between the Soviet Union and the Allied powers specifically the United States. This speech came about a month before the construction of the Berlin Wall had begun. He assured the American people that they would not be pushed out of West Berlin and that the Soviets ambitions of communist governments would not be pushed on the free West Berlin. This began the first time where fallout shelters begin to come into mainstream. The president pushed for public shelters to be built and air raid measures to be established by the government for the public.
