The Cold War and the CIA
The Central Intelligence Agency was founded on September 18,1947 by the Truman Administration to gather information on the Soviets Union and other countries.
Intelligence briefs prepared by the CIA were considered Top Secret and given to President Truman and senior staff only. These documents are important links to the origins of the Cold War because they give details as to the political posturing that went on between the US, allied European Countries and the USSR after WWII. Some of the letters contents are not even factual, the language is opinionated. The CIA letters actually suggest to the President what policies the USSR might object too. This is the type of language and propaganda that the cold war was founded on. source: http://www.trumanlibrary.org/hst/g.htm |
